Did you see the development of transportation infrastructure in India such as bridges and widening of roads and think “Why are they building these to meet just today’s needs when they are actually going to take five more years to complete? By the time they complete, they will not meet the needs of the future, adequately.”
Just as you wonder about work like that, think about focusing your strategy and work on the future needs that your work will actually serve. A famous quote phrases this better: “Skate to where the puck is going, not to where it has been”.
Think about tomorrow’s needs. Anticipate future competition. Prepare your people to serve the future demand. Design education and training with that in mind. Bring up your children and mentees to anticipate and adapt. Aim not at where the target is now, but aim at where the target is going to be. Build for the future.
